the garden

This is just a picture of our chicken coop, I thought I would include....it's right by the garden :)

These are our strawberry plants

This is our potato garden...we also planted pumpkins in the empty space you see on the right.

this is a picture of our "main" garden...I couldn't get the whole thing in...but we have planted peas, onions, carrots, beets, lettuce, spinach, brussel sprouts, beans, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucc., asparagus, rhubarb. I can all the veggies and put them up for the winter :) We LOVE our garden and the blessing that it is! God is so good!! We love to see His hand at work! Have a blessed day!!

  1. I love to garden too. We just dug our first potatoes and squash is soon coming. We will be picking tomatoes next week probably. I put up all the tomatoes so I can make all our sauce for the year. We tried strawberries for the first time this year but they didn't do well. There was something eating them and then we got tons of rain that finished them off. We are going to do some more reading and try again next year.

  3. Thank you Sandra and Lori :)

Sandra...did you know if you pinch all your buds off your strawberry plants the first year your plants will spread and produce more and better fruit the next year :) The only downer in that you don't get any fruit the first year.

  4. I love your garden Kim!! One day I'd love to try chickens too...but have to convince DH :P...do the chickens get let out of the coop or is that enough space for them? I know ZERO about chichens except I think they're cute....cute won't make me a good chicken mamma either...LOL! The stick star is beautiful! I HAVE to make one now for somewhere in my back yard....how country cute and homey!!! Love it!

  5. Thanks Moxie!! There's a funny story behind our chicken coop...we wanted chickens but didn't want to spend a lot on a coop. So, some friends of ours said we could come to a barn they just bought and use anything we found...well, we found EVERYTHING there...including the nesting boxes for inside! All the lumber is old barn wood and the tin for the roof was there...we loaded all the materials on top of our van! We looked like the people from National Lampoon's Vacation! LOL....talk about country bumpkins....that's us!
We let the chickens out in the fall and winter...and some in the spring. I don't like all the droppings everywhere during the summer as our chickens are so tame they try to come in the house when the door opens! They stand outside our sliding glass doors and look in! They will follow us all around and when you reach down to pet them they lay down and let you :) They even steal the kids food right out of thier hands! One time one of the chickens stole a rubber lizzard from my son and we all had to chase the chicken around the yard to get it back...lol...they are too much fun! You should get some! LOL...
